Nursing Instructor Inservice October 12, 2007

LACOROP Nursing Instructors,
I hope your school year started smoothly. I just wanted to remind you about our annual nursing inservice on October 12, 2007 here at the County office on Clark, from 8-3:30, Linda will get the room number to you as soon as it is confirmed.

  • Remember to bring your policy and procedure book and master forms so that we can proceed with our annual scrapbook activity. (Judy you will need to bring the work that you did on the Home Health Aide P&Ps and master forms)

  • You will also need to bring the following: pictures of your students in action and a picture of the facility that you utilize for training. We will be using them for the Nov 2, 2007 advisory. On a disc or zip drive would be best. Or you can email them.

  • We will also be working on completing the MSW (making standards work) projects started last year. What this means to you is that we will be working in groups to develop PBA (performance based assessments) for the entire nursing area over the 2007-8 school year (you may need to bring text and other support materials)

  • Bring your favorite lesson to share

  • We will also be discussing the pros and cons of implementing "Fundamentals of Nursing" so bring your thinking caps

  • We will be discussing the new certificate procedures and challenges

  • Also bring your 283b if you need signatures

  • and what do you know about the nursing unit now in Department of Public Health not Department of Health Services????????

Please remind your steering committee representative of this meeting so that you will get reimbursed.
Let me know if you have any questions and ideas for lunch.
See you soon,
Karin

I just returned from the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators (NAEMSE) Symposium in good ol' Hollyweird. What a place to host a national conference the attendees got a little bit of everything -- Wil Smith taping a movie on Highland and Hollywood Blvd. with explosions and car wrecks. Jamie Fox getting his star on the walk of fame. Superman, Jimmy Hendrix, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, people begging for food right off your plate, a house moving down the 101 on Saturday until it got stuck under an overpass and caused an outrageous traffic jam. Just to name a few of the events outside the conference. If the attendees didn't leave California thinking we're all nuts I would truly be surprised.

Reporting from the educational side of the conference -- over the next year you will have the opportunity to give input on the new national EMS curriculum standards for EMR, EMT, and Paramedic. These standards will replace our current National DOT curriculum and will be reflected in the National Registry testing about a year after the curriculum is adopted.

There were several break out sessions devoted to assessing student achievement and progress, regulatory issues, current research, instructor resources, vendor displays, as well as applications for various types of classroom technology (i.e. flash, pod casting, and adding spice to your PowerPoint presentations).

Next years conference is in St. Louis, MO., September 9-14, 2008. Go to NAEMSE.org for more information.

Are You Connected

We (LACOROP Health Care Instructors) are now connected via an email message that alerts you to new postings on the ROPulse@blogspot.com. You also have the ability to make your own postings and comment on others.
It's easy -- go ahead and post that burning question you had about National Registry Testing, Medical Assistant Certification, Nursing Fundamentals, How to work with students with disabilities, Sports Medicine key assignments, UC credit for Psychology & Counseling Principles, share your favorite field trip, guest speaker or lesson plan.
Although it's our site please be professional and helpful with your postings and comments. If you need assistance send me an email or give me a call -- I'll walk you through the process as I'm learning as well.
Now take a moment and complete the poll on the right on how you best communicate with your consultant.
